I have been telling everyone that if every delivery went like this one the world would be seriously over populated. I'll start from the beginning...at my appointment on Wednesday I was dilated to 4cm so my Dr. wanted me to come in Friday morning just to check me again because I tested positive for strep B and she wanted to be sure I got to the hospital on time to get antibiotics. When I went in Friday morning I was at a 5. She said it was my decision if I wanted to go in or not and get the antibiotic started and see where things went from there...she was sure I was going to go into labor either Friday or Saturday either way. At first I said no, I would prefer to go into labor on my own and promised to go in right away if labor started but then ran into my parent's good friend and a good friend of mine who work at the office who both thought it would be a good idea to go in and not wait. So I called Bryan and asked if he wanted to have a baby and he said 'sure'. :) I called his sister to come watch Payton for the day and we were to the hospital by 10:30 am. They started the antibiotic at 11:30 (it takes 4 hours to complete the first round). Dr. came to check me at 1 pm and I was at a 6...complete surprise to me due to the lack of pain. She didn't want to brake my water at that point because she thought I would go too fast if she did. She also said I could get my epidural at any time, which I thought totally unnecessary again due to the lack of pain so I said I just want it before you come back and break my water. At 4 pm I was checked again...at a 7. Shocked again because still no real pain...some cramping but nothing more the period cramping. Just after 4 the anesthesiologist came in and gave me my epidural because Dr. was coming at 4:30 to break my water. I remember this being a highlight of labor with Payton because it relieved the pain I was in...not this time, this was the most pain I was in all day. Yes, it's true...most pain I felt all labor was getting the epidural...told you if every labor was like this the world would be over populated. :)
Dr. broke my water at 5:25 and decided to give me some Pitocin to get the contractions to be closer together so when I was complete it wouldn't take so long to push. We, Bryan & I, were very excited about getting things moving because we were both bored by this point...watching a movie on my computer bored. I was checked again around 7:30...was only an 8 so they said they would check back later but if I felt any pressure to call...at 8 pm I had a lot of pressure so I called...at 9.5! They gave me 10 more minutes...was complete at 8:10. Started pushing at 8:15. Charley was born at 8:22. :)
I am very glad I went to the hospital when I did and didn't wait to feel labor at home. I don't know what it would have taken for me to feel that and how long I would have had to get to the hospital when I did feel the pain...I know I wouldn't have had 4 hours to get the antibiotics that I needed. I was also very glad to know that I did progress to a 7 without pitocin so I really didn't have to be induced at all. I don't like thinking that I chose both my children's birthdays. It seems Charley was going to be born on September 10 either way. :)
We are very excited he is here and is healthy.
God is SO good!
It is late so I will post about Payton meeting him for the first time later...makes my heart melt just thinking about it. :)
Oh and for the record...I was right, he was a boy!
